Why ‘Radical Transparency’ Will Change Your Life

My Week in Pics: Saying goodbye to gorgeous Portugal, spending a lovely weekend exploring beautiful Barcelona and meeting up with friends from back home, witnessing with complete awe Gaudi’s architectural magnificence, inspiring workshop with TedX speaker Jodie Rogers, enjoying another week in Valencia and some glorious sunsets…

Why ‘Radical Transparency’ Will Change Your Life.

Happy Friday!

…from where I sit, back in beautiful Valencia.

I have to say I’m loving this city – and the Spanish culture in general. I’m not sure I want to leave next week!

On another note, I was recently introduced to this term, radical transparency. And as someone who is all about openness, vulnerability, and authenticity, I was curious to learn more.

And after I got what it was all about, I decided to take it on.

Although not always easy, I’m committing to living with more and more radical transparency each and every day.

Watch this week’s video to learn what radical transparency is all about, as well as 3 benefits that just may change your life!

Yes, perhaps some bold promises in there.
And yet I really do believe when you take on this idea of radical transparency, you will:
  • Build deeper, stronger, more meaningful relationships
  • Live your life with even greater purpose
  • Feel FREE…. to say what you want, and to be who you are
SO… are you going to take it on this week? I hope so!
And then I want to hear from you in the discussion on Facebook
Have a FAB week!

P.S. Women Living Big is turning 2 on Sunday! AND, we’re going to have a little *LIVE* on-line celebration… and we also have a VERY exciting announcement! Tune in on SUNDAY, SEPT. 24th at 1pm EST to the WLB FB Group and be the first in-the-know!

The kind of learning no school will ever teach you…

My Week in Pics: Seeing as how I disconnected for most of the week, I don’t have a lot of pics! However, I had a lovely week exploring Lisbon and surfing in beautiful Cascais, Portugal…

The kind of learning no school will ever teach you…

Happy Friday, and happy back to school time!

Happy Friday!

I don’t know about you, but regardless of my age or stage in life, September will always be ‘back to school time’ for me – and back to the grind! However I do love this time of year, as it’s an opportunity to get back at it – to learning, to life – whatever that looks like to you.

For me, it’s getting back to surfing (having a fab time at a surf camp the last fours days in Cascais, Portugal ~ and won ‘best wave’ award yesterday!) and getting back to connecting with the world…

I took on the disconnection challenge (did you?!? If so, I want to hear about it!) and although I was scared at first, once day three came I didn’t want to turn my phone back on!

But I’m glad I did. And I feel I needed to do it, too.

I believe the world was clearly giving me numerous signs over the last little while, and because I wasn’t choosing to listen, things kept happening to me!

There’s a type of learning, arguably more important than anything you’ll ever learn in school, that you need to pay attention to…

Watch this week’s video to find out what I mean!

Again, the two types of learning are:

1. Conscious Learning (learning you are actively pursuing)
2. Consequential Learning (learning you are ideally actively receiving)

This week, beyond consciously choosing to learn something, I also invite you to pay special attention to what your life and the Universe is trying to teach you…

And then I want to hear from you in the comments below!

Have a FAB week!

Is it your time… for Mobile Heaven?

My Week in Pics: From tapas to paella… and maximising the moments without a mobile phone.

Is it your time… for Mobile Heaven?

Happy Friday!

It’s funny. I’m old enough to know what life was like before cell phones existed. And somehow the world survived just fine!

And now, if anything happens to our phones, it’s like our world comes crashing down. And I’ll admit it, I’m no exception.

It’s been tough not having a properly working phone this past week. However as much as I value technology, the internet, and social media for all it can offer in terms of connection and relationship-building, I also think there may be a downside, too.

Watch this week’s video to hear about my latest mobile phone woes, and the challenge I’ve created as a result!

When you are experiencing something, checking something off of your bucket list (and trust me, I’m the Queen of Bucket List!), or engaging in your daily activities, are you actually experiencing? And what if you couldn’t post to social media, could you survive?

I invite you to take on this disconnection challenge… and find the joy in the action of DOING.

DO IT… and then share your experiences in the comments below. I dare you!

Have a FAB week!

Leave Your Phone at Home! Lessons learned from El Camino de Santiago to La Tomatina Festival

My Week in Pics: Going ‘off the grid’ and enjoying the beauty, splendour, and serenity walking six days of the Coastal Route of El Camino de Santiago… and then the very next day experiencing the craziness that is La Tomatina Festival!

Leave Your Phone at Home! Lessons learned from El Camino de Santiago to La Tomatina Festival

For the first time all year, I completely unplugged. For five whole days. I mean no laptop, no facebook, no wifi. And it was glorious.

It may not sound like a whole lotta time, and yet those days while walking El Camino de Santiago I was able to be fully present… to smell the flowers, to feel the wind, and to experience heart-full, soulful connections with other individuals.

I wanted to stay longer. I wanted to complete it. And one day, I will.

BUT, I had things to do, people to see, and La Tomatina Festival to attend!

Well, after what transpired, perhaps I should have stayed on El Camino after all…

Watch this week’s video to hear the story and find out what it really means to disconnect.

So, what would be left if you were stripped away of all your ‘stuff?

And what would it look like to ‘DO less’ and ‘BE more’ ?

I want to hear from you! Leave your comments and thoughts below, or over on YouTube

Why I Decided to Detach, Disconnect, and Detox… and why you should, too

My week in pics: Saying goodbye to new friends on board Sail Croatia’s Magellan, arriving in beautiful (& bucket list destination!) San Sebastián, Spain, and making the decision to embark on El Camino de Santiago…

Why I Decided to Detach, Disconnect, and Detox…
and why you should, too.

Happy Friday!

San Sebastián, Spain has been on my bucket list for over ten years. And so you can only imagine how excited I was to arrive there on Monday (especially as I was reconnecting with a special friend from back home!)

However, my time there ended up looking a little bit different than I expected.

Instead of hitting up the waves and going out on the town feasting on tapas and wine (it’s actually known as both a surfer’s and foodie’s paradise!) I found myself spending most of my time staying in my cozy little room in old town, with a small balcony looking out onto the action-packed cobblestone street below.

My luggage was lost (I know, right?!?) and I ended up watching an episode of Super Soul Sunday with Shauna Niequist, NY Times best-selling author Present Over Perfect: Leaving Behind Frantic for a Simpler, More Soulful Way of Living.

Watch this week’s video to find out what happened next, where I am at the time I shot the video, and why I felt the need to detach, disconnect, and detox.

So, although a bit more of a personal reveal instead of a lesson to teach, I’d love to challenge you to look for how life may be speaking to you. Is it time for YOU to detach, disconnect, and detox from the outside, and perhaps re-connect with you on the inside?

I want to hear from you in the comments below!

Have a FAB week!

5 Strategies to Stay Up When Life Kicks You Down

My week in pics: Exploring all of the beauty and splendor that is Croatia, while on board Sail Croatia’s lovely Magellan, and making a whole lot of special new friends for life… I think this country may have stolen my heart!

It’s Always Sunny in Croatia!
5 Strategies to Stay Up When Life Kicks You Down

Happy Friday!

And greetings from beautiful Hvar, Croatia. A country I honestly didn’t previously know a whole lot about, and have since fallen in love with.

Honestly. And if the pictures do it even a little bit of justice, no doubt you can understand why!

It’s true I am extremely fortunate to be travelling the world right now. That being said, travelling is not always sunshine and rainbows.

Sometimes travelling can be tough. And sometimes bad things can happen.

Last week, I had my backpack taken while on the the train from Budapest, Hungary to Split, Croatia. In the moment I went from complete panic to denial, anger, frustration, guilt… and I’ve played the ‘what if’ game way too many times. However I’m now in a very different place ~ dare I say I am actually at peace with it all. (But really, did you have to take my journal?!?)

In this week’s video, I share the story of having my backpack taken, as well as the 5 strategies I’ve used to be able to come to a place of peace.

Again, here are the 5 strategies:

  1. Shift Your Mindset
  2. Seek Comfort in Community
  3. Take Action
  4. Look For The Lessons
  5. Find Gratitude

Next time something not so great happen in your life, which of these five strategies are going to implement? Or do you have other ideas? I want to hear from you!

Anchor Down! 3 daily must-dos to stay grounded (and sane!) regardless of what’s happening in your world.

My week in pics: Enjoying special famjam time in Holland (even went to the same amusement park with my cousin and her kids as I went to as a child… talk about nostalgia!), visiting my 93-year-old step grandmother whom I haven’t seen in years, discovering beautiful Budapest and taking in all it has to offer – from sunset cruises to gorgeous views to Turkish style baths to rose-shaped gelato and more!

Anchor Down! 3 daily must-dos to stay grounded (and sane!) regardless of what’s happening in your world.

Happy Friday!

As you likely know by now, I’m currently living out of a suitcase. Now although I’ve been ‘traveling’ in the sense of working remotely since January, this month I have ventured off on my own. Which means I have no home base, have not unpacked, and am in a new city (and a new bed!) every few days.

As exciting as that sounds – then again, maybe not! – I’m realizing I also need certain things to keep me grounded and anchored as each day looks different than the last.

So today, I want to share my three daily rituals, activities, non-negotiables. Adopt these practices and you, too, will stay anchored and grounded regardless of where you may be in the world, or what may be happening in your world.

Watch it now!

So, what are YOUR rituals, habits, and daily activities you’re prepared to try on? Or what are your current daily non-negotiables?

I want to hear from you. And besides, sharing is caring! So share your ideas, and share this video with a friend or colleague you think could benefit.

Have a FAB week!

Three Reasons Why Spontaneity is Food For The Soul

My week in pics:

Three Reasons Why Spontaneity is Food For The Soul

Happy Friday!

And greetings from Paris ~ the city of love! However, I have to say it’s a little different when one is exploring on their own. Still, I am making the most of it and taking it all in… La Seine, Montmartre, Les Champs-Elysees, La Tour Eiffel… yes, all of the hot tourist spots, however also doing some exploring off the beaten tracks…

When was the last time you did something truly spontaneous?

One of my Mother’s most famous lines was ‘Everything in Moderation…’ There is a time for splurging and indulging, just not every day. (And it’s good to remember in this city with beautiful sidewalk cafes at every turn otherwise my diet would consist of coffee, croissants, wine, and ice cream!)

However, this idea also extends to behaviours and attitudes.

After having spent time in Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein over the past few days, I gained a new found appreciation for their sense of time, punctuality, and sticking to a schedule (it was a little different in South America!) and yet there are also time where being a bit more loose and spontaneous can come in handy!

Watch today’s video to find out why it’s important to also be spontaneous, and three reasons why it just may do you some good.

And so now I want to hear from YOU! How are you going to be spontaneous this week? Please share in the comments below.

Use Your Words! 3 Reasons Why Your Voice Matters

Use Your Words! 3 Reasons Why Your Voice Matters

Happy Friday!
Greetings, from where I sit some 40,000ft above the ground! Indeed I am writing to you from up in the air… (although by the time you read this, I’ll have landed back in Prague!)

I flew back from New Orleans last night, after a fab few days at the iaap Summit with some of my fave folks. And both of the presentations I was lucky enough to deliver somehow addressed the power of communication.

It truly is at the core of all we do, and the access point to achieving all we desire both personally and professionally.

And, effective communication skills often present some other neat perks, too!

So I thought I would speak to this idea (pardon the pun!) in today’s video. Anyone been around very small children when they are told: ‘Use your words!‘?!?

Here are 3 reasons why using your words may benefit you in more ways than you realize.

This week, I challenge you to ‘use your words’ more intentionally, and consider how they may:

  1. Present particular perks
  2. Make your dreams and commitments real
  3. Being life to that next million dollar idea

Let me know how it goes! I wanna hear from you in the comments below, or over on my YouTube channel!

Happy Friday, and have a FAB week!

How to Remember People’s Names in 7 Fool-Proof Steps!

My Week in Pics: Working hard at some of the cute neighbourhood cafes, enjoying farewell brunches, gelato, and local cuisine, watching Vivaldi being performed at the ancient Klementinum, camping for a night at Melt Festival in Germany (and swimming in the lake with Pippi Longstocking!), completing a Prague Outdoor Escape, visiting Little Hanoi, and going to a beer spa!!!

How to Remember People’s Names in 7 Fool-Proof Steps!

Happy Friday!

And greetings no longer from Prague, but rather my beautiful home town in Oakville (which has actually exceeded the population for a town, and so is technically now a city. Yet everyone still refers to it as at own because, well, it sounds more quaint!) Random Friday fact for you!

I flew back across the pond yesterday, and am excited to be en route to New Orleans, where I’m looking forward to presenting at the International Association of Administrative Professionals (iaap) annual Summit.

I have to say I love attending and participating in conferences and summits. I love the energy, I love the learning, and I love the meeting of a whole lotta new people.

And ideally, I love going beyond simply meeting them to actually connecting with them.

In last week’s post, I shared some ideas and easy to implement strategies that help to build instant and lasting connection. One of them was asking, and remembering, people’s names. And I promised to go deeper into this strategy this week.

So, that is exactly what we’re going to do today! Watch today’s video to learn the 7 easy, fool-proof steps to remembering people’s names.

***WARNING!*** After you watch this video you’ll no longer be able to use the excuse “I’m useless at remembering names!” because now you’ll have the steps… And once you learn something, you can’t unlearn it.

Once again, the steps are:

  1. Present
  2. Listen
  3. Association
  4. Impression
  5. Scribe
  6. Interest
  7. Repetition

Are you ready to put these techniques into practice?!? I hope so! And I want to hear how it goes. Test it out, and then share your experiences in the comments below, or on my YouTube channel. And be sure to SUBSCRIBE!

Do you know someone in your life who could benefit from this video? Sharing is caring after all, so send it on over to them!

Have a FAB week!
