Less Talk, More Do: The best time to take action is NOW!

Happy Friday!

I don’t know about you, but I get ideas and think about goals and dream big dreams on a pretty regular basis. Like, daily. And while many of these ideas and goals and dreams are fleeting, some stick with me. And in my mind, I am making them happen. And yet in reality, I am not pushing the ball forward.

Is there something you’ve been wanting to do for a while now, thinking about doing for a while now, and are almost sick of hearing yourself talk about doing for a while now?

Something you perhaps want to actually start DOING something about already?

That is me when it comes to my book!

I actually started well over a year ago… did the pre-work, the brainstorming of what I wanted to share, why me, why now, brain dumped all of my thoughts, organized those thoughts into categories, chose chapters from those categories, and created a writing schedule. I even sat down a few times and did do some writing.

And then something happened.

I got distracted, I got derailed, I lost confidence, or I let the fear get the better of me.

And that is not the first time it’s happened!

Perhaps you can relate?

This week, I enjoyed a full day intensive with my mastermind. (I am so grateful to have so much support and so many special ladies in my life!) And one of the biggest ahas that came out of the day was that most all of the successes I’ve enjoyed have come from a place of powerful decisions. And powerful decisions have come from a place of confidence.

My commitment over the next ninety days to the group is to focus on powerful decisions. Which means I am going to have to come from a place of confidence!

Getting back to writing my book, and committing to finishing it, is one of these decisions.

I’ve decided to take the plunge and have joined my friend Jenny McKaig’s ‘Become a Published Author’ course… and I’m going to make it happen!

More on that in a moment, however I want to ask you a few questions:

  • What is that ONE thing you have wanted to do for way too long to remember?
  • What has been holding you back?
  • What would your life look like in a year from now if you started acting on it today?
  • What would be that FIRST step in taking action towards making it happen?
  • What are you waiting for?!?

We all have the best of intentions. And yet sometimes it takes a whole lotta confidence and massive action to create the life we truly desire.

As many of you know, a few weeks ago I turned 35. Kinda a big deal for me! I love celebrating birthdays, however this year I’ll admit it made me feel a bit old. And so while I wanted to shy away and pretend it wasn’t happening, I am trying to embrace it!

To that end, I got excited about creating a birthday bucket list. 35 things I want to do in my 35th year.

  3. Learn the Rubik’s Cube

Self-sabotaging yourself? Stop it! Like NOW! (Using these 3 steps.)

 

Youre not alone. We all do it. You know what Im talking about.

You choose to indulge in that extra slice of turkey or piece of chocolate cake when you just started a healthy eating plan or told yourself you’d be ‘good.’

You set aside time in your calendar to go through bills or catch up on emails, when all of a sudden an offer to go watch the baseball game sounds far more appealing.

You say yes to every opportunity that comes your way, and end up breaking commitments left, right, and center ~ getting in over your head and totally stressing yourself out in the process.

What do all three scenarios have in common? Instead of setting yourself up for success, you are setting yourself up for the opposite.

It’s called self-sabotage.

It’s very easy to do. And, it’s time to stop.

I know deep down you are committed to reaching your biggest dreams and wildest desires. I know you are up to BIG things and are committed to living a BIG life. And when you are, there is no room for self-sabotage.

It takes a serious amount of discipline to stay committed to your goals.

It takes ridiculous dedication to stick to your new workout regime or healthy eating plan.  

And it takes a whole lotta fierce self-love to push through and keep going for your dreams when distractions and noise and excuses abound.

You’re going to fall off the bandwagon at some point. It’s bound to happen. I mean you’re human, after all!

And when you do, simply shake it off, and jump right back on again.

I’m speaking to myself as I type these words. Come Monday, I’ll be starting a 30-day cleanse. And although I’m pretty excited (after indulging in a whole lotta delicious food over Thanksgiving, and a few too many fun events and after parties and Jays games recently, this girl is ready to get clean!) I’m also pretty nervous. Will I be able to stick to it? Even over Halloween?

Answer? Depends how much I want it.

Those self-sabotaging Gremlins will somehow sneak their way into your head. Trust me. And be careful, because sometimes they’re pretty sneaky and disguise themselves as something else ~ fear, procrastination or ‘rational’ excuses. DON’T GIVE IN!

 

How to stop self-sabotage:

 

  1. COMMIT.

Really commit to what you want. Be it an exercise regime, a weekly accounting check-in, or a tough conversation.

  1. MAKE IT REAL.

Schedule it in your calendar, invest in the organic produce, make a public announcement and enroll support.

  1. STICK TO IT.

Knowing that you are going to likely cheat at some point, or fall of the bandwagon, just keep going. Follow through. Jump back on. Shake it off. Just stick to it!

Don’t give in. You got this! And yes, you deserve it.

The 3 C’s of Getting What You Really Want

A few common threads came up during my fun work activities this week.

I had the honour of being interviewed for a telesummit coming up (stay tuned!) entitled ‘The Art of Living Beyond Limitations.’  One of the ideas the host Kristen Owens and I spoke about on the path to living BIG was the importance of CLARITY.

I was also privileged to have sat on an expert panel on the subject of healthy mindset for a segment of ‘Heath Matters’ on Rogers TV. And what it kept coming back to, was CHOICE.

And after attending Brendon Burchard’s 4-day High Performance Academy, I  have been all about my new COMMITMENTs.

In order to really get what you really want, I think what is comes down to these 3 C’s: Clarity, Choice, and Commitment.

CLARITY

What is it that you really want? Do you even know? If you don’t first get clear on a vision, and I mean really clear, how are you ever going to know where to go, or when you got there?

Brendon had a great line he shared: “Perhaps the world hasn’t given you what you want because based on all of your distractions, it’s simply unsure as to what you’re asking.”

Hmmm… When was the last time you created a vision board? Or wrote out the vision for your life? Clearly defined your goals, dreams, and/or core desires?

It’s time to get SUPER CLEAR on what you want. And then get rid of the distractions. And if you’re not sure what you want, no time like the present to start thinking about it!

CHOICE

At the end of the day, we have to make a choice. I remember listening to an interview of a guy when I was a lot younger (not a prominent thought-leader by any means, more of an average Joe who had overcome some hardships) who made a lasting impression on me. He was asked of his secret to staying positive. ‘Every morning you wake up you have a choice. Is today going to be a good day or a bad day? I choose to make it a good one.’

Today really is a great day to make it a good day. Wouldn’t you agree?

Once you have clearly defined what it is you want (and Dream BIG! Why not?!?) you have to CHOOSE it. And you have to choose to believe it. And then you have be diligent in choosing to say YES to everything that is going to help you get there, and NO to everything that is steering you off course.

COMMITMENT

In my opinion, at least for me, this is the most challenging of the three. One you know what you want, and you’re choosing it, you have to make a serious COMMITMENT to making it happen. None of this one foot dipping in the water stuff. No, that is not going to get you where you want to go.

It takes serious discipline, hard work, and perseverance to achieve those big dreams. So you gotta commit, and be prepared to make some sacrifices along the way.

If you know you are here for a bigger purpose (and you KNOW you are) you need to fully, 100% commit.

There you have it. That’s what it comes down to. Clarity. Choice. Commitment.

It may be scary, I get it. You will go through tough times. You will fight your inner fears and Gremlins. You will come up against naysayers. And you will be challenged on numerous fronts. However, if you really want what you really want, you have to get really clear, choose it, and commit. Take ownership. Take responsibility. And say yes. And when you do, you won’t let anything get in your way.

Are you ready to go after what you really want?!? Get super CLEAR, CHOOSE it, and be prepared to COMMIT. Because really, it’s your time. (Click to tweet it out!)
