Are you having enough fun in (or out of) the sun?!?

The sun is out again in my neck of the woods! YAY! And, as amazing as Mr. Sun is, even he can’t shine everyday. So when it is sunny out there, why not take in the rays? Enjoy the moment? Maximize the fun? I am reminded of that Trooper (go Canadian bands!) song:

“We’re here for a good time

Not a long time

So have a good time

The sun cant shine everyday.

It’s true, the sun can’t shine everyday. And so when it does, we should enjoy (especially us Canadian folks…) and even when it isn’t, that shouldn’t stop us from having a good time.

We don’t need any more excuses not to have fun in our lives. In fact, I think just the opposite. I think we need to instead find more excuses to have fun in our lives.

When was the last time you had fun? I mean, real, unabashed, uninhibited, smile till your face hurts, laugh till you cry good ol’ fashioned fun?!?

Now I know fun can mean different things to different people, but I wonder how many of us really try to make fun a priority in our lives. Or even ask ourselves what fun means to us?

I fear life has become too serious. And I’ll admit I can be found guilty of it, too. I feel we have become a society that lives to work, instead of one that works to live. Now work is important, don’t get me wrong, but so is play and fun. I feel the majority of us would far more easily find time for a business meeting over finding time for a game of hide and seek in the forest. Now why is that?

We’ve all become too good at making excuses. I dont have time for fun. Im too old to have fun. I need to work first, and then well see if I can squeeze in some fun after all is done. But my work is my fun. Ill have fun as soon as this project is complete.

Well guess what, those excuses aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. So we gotta move past them. And who said work and fun have to be mutually exclusive, anyhow? I don’t think the answer is to necessarily schedule “fun time” from 5 – 6pm on our calendar every other day. That’s simply not going to work! But perhaps we can bring a sense of fun to all that we do – and yes, even work! – or allow ourselves to channel our childlike fun-ness every once in a while.

This week I did get quite a bit of work done, however I also had a whole lotta fun (and checked a few things off my Summer bucket list while I was at it!) I threw a balcony party, did yoga unplugged on the deck. enjoyed my rooftop for the first time this season ~ it just so happened to coincide with a new male magazine launch, and so I was forced to share the pool with some swimsuit models… tough life! ~ went to a pre-TIFF media launch party, hosted the Company of Women Summer Sizzler, went rowing, and attended Freed’s 10th Anniversary rooftop party. And this weekend I’m heading to the CNE! Fun times indeed. And no, I’m not going to feel guilty about it. I’m going to embrace the fun-ness! (and yes, it’s a word.)

Life is short enough as it is… so how do you want to be spending it?!? It’s time to make fun a priority. (Click to tweet it out!)

As the saying goes, ‘enjoy what you can, when you can, whilst you can.’ So, whether Mr. Sun comes out to play or not, make sure you have some fun this weekend!

Have a FAB week!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

And happy May 2-4 long weekend for those celebrating! Any fun plans? As you read this, I will be well into day one of my 3-day Master Planning Workshop. Work on a long weekend? Well, sorta :-).

Although it may not sound as much fun as cottaging or enjoying the sunshine in a park or on a patio, I am pretty excited. 3 days solid, 12 hours a day, master planning my life. I’m pretty sure I’ll be coming out with a wee bit more clarity and strategy come Monday!

When was the last time you took the time to carefully plan something out in your life?

I’m sure you’ve heard the quote: ‘If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.’ ~ Benjamin Franklin. I think intrinsically we all know how true this is, and yet it doesn’t mean we’re actually making it regular practice. Right?!?

I have experienced days both carefully planned out, hour by hour, and ones that sort of unfold and transpire however they do. And let me tell you, I always get WAY more done on the former.

Now for all of you highly productive, high performer types out there, this is second nature to you. So let me ask you this: Are you as diligent planning out your fun time as you are your work time? For all of the business goals you have created, do you have just as many life goals? Fun and recreation time on the calendar?

So perhaps the idea of master planning your life is a bit daunting. I get it, for me too! However I do think everyone could benefit from a little extra conscious planning.

Last weekend I did the Zombie Room Escape with a group of my friends (so fun!) and then enjoyed a lovely Mexican feast afterwards. And during dinner, we took time to talk about all of the things we each wanted to ensure we did this Summer. It’s the second year in a row I’ve created a ‘Summer Bucket List’ of sorts – and I’m pretty excited about what we have in store! When you take the time to plan, the odds are far better it’ll actually happen.

To be sure, all of this talk of planning is not intended to take away from the excitement or spontaneity of life! However if you aren’t at least a little intentional with what you want to do, the end of Summer will come all too quickly. And you don’t want to feel as though you didn’t get a chance to do all you wanted to do, now do you?!?

So perhaps you too, are inspired to plan out your life, your Summer, or maybe you’d simply like to be able to plan out your next day or even your next meal. Whatever it is, enjoy the process. And allow yourself to get excited about all you are going to make happen!

When you spend just a little bit of time planning, you’ll spend a while lotta time enjoying. (Click to tweet it out!)

Have a FAB week, and happy planning!
