My week in pictures...(L-R; T-B:) Fabulous company at the 'Company of Women' Journey 2 Success conference, 'Making it Happen' implementation day, Success in the City with co-founders Laura Furtado and Nikki Bergen, amazing Savvy Women Society members after delivering 'Spark your G.E.N.I.U.S.' workshop!
“Decisions are the worst!” says Natalie Sands, as she stands in front of her revolving closet holding her remote control, unable to decide what to wear.
I never really liked her character, however it’s a line from one of my all-time favourite movies, if not THEE favourite: ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun.’ (If you’ve never seen it, you simply HAVE to! Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Hunt, and Shannen Doherty back in the 80s… hilarious and amazing!)
I’ve got to be honest here, decision-making has never been one of my strengths. And it is my biggest area of opportunity.
Sitting in indecision keeps you stagnant, prevents you from moving forward, paralyzes you. Not to mention it takes up a LOT of your time and brainpower!
There is a reason why President Obama only ever wears blue or grey suits. And why Mark Zuckerberg owns about 20 identical grey t-shirts.
Steve Jobs, too, had his signature black mock turtleneck and jeans look. Even Albert Einstein apparently had several versions of the same grey suit.
What do all of these extremely successful leaders, innovators, movers and shakers have in common? They didn’t waste brainpower making trivial decisions. “You need to focus your decision-making energy. You need to routinize yourself. You can’t be going through the day distracted by trivia,” says Obama.
We live in world full of opportunity – and therefore full of choice! It’s exciting yes, however it can also be difficult to move forward when you are constantly sitting in indecision.
It’s certainly an area of opportunity for me. However, I am making progress! After attending an inspiring ‘Company of Women’ Journey 2 Success conference, and then an intense implementation day in a mastermind-type setting, I made a big decision this week.
It has to do with where I am focusing my business. Something I have been wanting clarity on for a while now! I am going to be letting go of a project I have been working on, in order to focus on my new direction and vision. Stay tuned!
It’s scary, but it also feels freeing.
- Where are you currently sitting in indecision?
- What would happen if you said ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to something you’ve been toiling with right now?
- How can you limit some of your more trivial decisions in order to create space for the more important ones?
There is power in making decisions. There are no right nor wrong ones. And nothing is forever. So decide today! (Click to tweet it out!)
And, if you know someone who could benefit from this post, share it with your friends!
Have a FAB week!
