Not everyone is going to like you…

Not everyone is going to like you…

Happy Friday!

Today I’m coming to you from my balcony… giving you a glimpse into where I’ve been living now we’re no longer in the hustle and bustle of the city centre (I kinda miss the buzz, to be honest!)

But I do like being able to see the mountains. And I like still being close to the beach. I like a lot of things!

And, I’ll admit it, I also like to be liked.

And I know I’m not alone.

Although it comes from a good place ~ it’s nice to be nice to others, to belong, and to genuinely want to be helpful, thoughtful, and caring ~ there is also such thing as caring too much.

Being in a new relationship, I’m conscious of wanting to fit in with the family, wanting to be accepted, and wanting to be liked.

However, if you are a good person, a genuine person, and your motivations are pure, it shouldn’t matter what others think. Sometimes easier said than done, no?!?

Watch this week’s video to learn 3 harsh truths about caring a lot (dare I say too much) about what others’ think, that will save you a lot of precious time and energy.

Again, here are the three (somehow harsh!) truths:

  1. Not everyone is going to like you.
  1. No matter how hard you try, you cannot control others’ feelings or reactions towards you.
  1. People care so much less than you think they do!

And remember, as Don Miguel Ruiz shares in his book The Four Agreements, what others think of you is none of your business!

Are you someone who cares a little too much at times what others think? Or do you know someone else who does? Share this video with them ~ and let’s keep the conversation going.

Which truth most resonated most with you? And what are you going to do this week as a result?

I want to hear from you in the comments below.

Have a FAB week!

Would You Rather be Right or Happy?!?

My week in pics: ‘Remote Working,’ sailing, exploring beautiful beach town Jávea, Spain!

Would you rather be right or would you rather be HAPPY?

Happy Friday!

First and foremost, THANK YOU to each and every one of you for your support and kind words last week when I shared my big decision… it is very much appreciated.

And, while I am super excited to be in the beginnings of a new relationship, it doesn’t mean it’s been nothing but sunshine and rainbows every day!

In fact, although we had our first lovely getaway this past weekend, and went to the amazing beach town called Jávea, we also had our first little ‘tiff.’

It reminded me of a line in The Course in Miracles: Would You Rather be RIGHT, or HAPPY?

Whether it’s with a friend, a family member, a significant other, a work colleague…  chances are you’re going to find yourself in some form of conflict at some point or another.

I mean we’re only human, after all.

And yet both you, and me, have a choice as to whether fighting or conflict is really what we want!

Watch this week’s video to learn more about the epiphany I had during our first tiff, as well as 3 ideas YOU can implement next time you find yourself facing a moment of conflict.

So, next time you find yourself wanting to raise your voice, slam a door, or give someone the silent treatment, consider these three ideas:

1. Ask yourself: Would you rather be right, or happy?

2. Pick your battles.

3. Get to the Heart of the Matter (and you just may realize it’s the heart that matters, in the end!)

And get honest with yourself about the perceptions, judgements, stories – running around in your head.

I want to hear your thoughts, comments, commitments below or on You Tube!

Why I’m Leaving Remote Year: Radical Transparency

Last night with Remote Year, saying goodbye to some of my Meraki Tribe…

Why I’m Leaving Remote Year: Radical Transparency

Happy Friday!

Now I don’t know about you, however in the best of times I often have a hard time making decisions. Choosing what to wear or what to eat for breakfast is one thing, however making more complicated and difficult decisions is quite another!

And while there are proven techniques and strategies one can employ, sometimes it’s easier said than done.

So in a moment of radical transparency in action, I’m going to share with you the big decision I recently made, as well as what I did to help me get there.

Watch this week’s video to learn why I’ve left Remote Year, as well as the 3 tactics I used in order to come to this decision.

So the next time you’re faced with having to make an important decision, consider these three steps:

1. Explore all potential options. Create pros and cons lists, look at consequences…

2. Seek others options, however, trust your gut, too.

Don’t go overboard asking other people’s advice. Ensure you are able to get honest and quiet with yourself in order to listen to what feels the most right for YOU.

3. Get honest with yourself.

You may want to ask yourself the following questions:

  • What are my goals and/or priorities? And will this decision take me closer to, or further away from, my goals?
  • Where will I showing up as my best self?
  • What are my biggest values? And which decision is going to honour these values more than the other?

Although tough decisions can be tough, hopefully these strategies will help!

Now, as per usual, let’s keep the conversation going!

I want to hear your thoughts, comments, commitments over on the blog or on You Tube!

Have a FAB week!

3 Small Ways to make a BIG impact…

My Week in Pics: Delivering my ‘Spark Your G.E.N.I.U.S.’ workshop for locals, digital nomads & Remotes living in Valencia, ladies Who Brunch (on the beach!), visiting beautiful Peniscola, trying to maximise time playing and dining with friends in my fave city on Remote Year thus far…

3 Small Ways to make a BIG impact…

Happy Friday!

…as I sit here typing at La Mas Bonita ~ the cutest little cafe and restaurant overlooking the beach (tough life, I know!) here in Valencia.

Now I know what you must be thinking.

‘You are SO lucky.’

And I am, it’s true. At least, I feel very fortunate to be able to be working, traveling, and exploring so many beautiful places around the globe this year.

Although that doesn’t make me immune to being affected by everything happening in the world.

Arguably, it’s helped me to realize just how small this world really is.

Having lived in the area of Mexico City at the beginning of the year that was hit the hardest by the recent earthquake, having clients and friends in Turks & Caicos that were there for both Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, and being in a group that is not sure whether it’s safe to visit Bali with the impending volcano eruption, what is happening in the world is very real and very close to home.

And it’s not just climate change. It’s the state of the political scene. It’s the wars and the fighting. It’s the poverty. It’s the racism. It’s the injustice. The list goes on…

It’s scary. And it’s hard to know what to do. And so I, you, we ~ sometimes stay stagnate, complacent, frozen.

It’s overwhelming to know where to start. And yet it doesn’t have to be.

Watch this weeks video to help you see perhaps it’s not about what you can DO, but rather who you can BE.

Sometimes with everything going on in the world, it’s hard to know what action to take, or where to start.

And yet you can:

  • Be even MORE of who you already are
  • Choose ONE cause to support. To stand up for. To fight for.
  • Take small actions and recognise they make a BIG difference

What are you going to take on this week?

Let’s keep this important conversation going. I want to hear your thoughts, comments, commitments in the discussion over on Facebook

Have a FAB week!

Why ‘Radical Transparency’ Will Change Your Life

My Week in Pics: Saying goodbye to gorgeous Portugal, spending a lovely weekend exploring beautiful Barcelona and meeting up with friends from back home, witnessing with complete awe Gaudi’s architectural magnificence, inspiring workshop with TedX speaker Jodie Rogers, enjoying another week in Valencia and some glorious sunsets…

Why ‘Radical Transparency’ Will Change Your Life.

Happy Friday!

…from where I sit, back in beautiful Valencia.

I have to say I’m loving this city – and the Spanish culture in general. I’m not sure I want to leave next week!

On another note, I was recently introduced to this term, radical transparency. And as someone who is all about openness, vulnerability, and authenticity, I was curious to learn more.

And after I got what it was all about, I decided to take it on.

Although not always easy, I’m committing to living with more and more radical transparency each and every day.

Watch this week’s video to learn what radical transparency is all about, as well as 3 benefits that just may change your life!

Yes, perhaps some bold promises in there.
And yet I really do believe when you take on this idea of radical transparency, you will:
  • Build deeper, stronger, more meaningful relationships
  • Live your life with even greater purpose
  • Feel FREE…. to say what you want, and to be who you are
SO… are you going to take it on this week? I hope so!
And then I want to hear from you in the discussion on Facebook
Have a FAB week!

P.S. Women Living Big is turning 2 on Sunday! AND, we’re going to have a little *LIVE* on-line celebration… and we also have a VERY exciting announcement! Tune in on SUNDAY, SEPT. 24th at 1pm EST to the WLB FB Group and be the first in-the-know!

The kind of learning no school will ever teach you…

My Week in Pics: Seeing as how I disconnected for most of the week, I don’t have a lot of pics! However, I had a lovely week exploring Lisbon and surfing in beautiful Cascais, Portugal…

The kind of learning no school will ever teach you…

Happy Friday, and happy back to school time!

Happy Friday!

I don’t know about you, but regardless of my age or stage in life, September will always be ‘back to school time’ for me – and back to the grind! However I do love this time of year, as it’s an opportunity to get back at it – to learning, to life – whatever that looks like to you.

For me, it’s getting back to surfing (having a fab time at a surf camp the last fours days in Cascais, Portugal ~ and won ‘best wave’ award yesterday!) and getting back to connecting with the world…

I took on the disconnection challenge (did you?!? If so, I want to hear about it!) and although I was scared at first, once day three came I didn’t want to turn my phone back on!

But I’m glad I did. And I feel I needed to do it, too.

I believe the world was clearly giving me numerous signs over the last little while, and because I wasn’t choosing to listen, things kept happening to me!

There’s a type of learning, arguably more important than anything you’ll ever learn in school, that you need to pay attention to…

Watch this week’s video to find out what I mean!

Again, the two types of learning are:

1. Conscious Learning (learning you are actively pursuing)
2. Consequential Learning (learning you are ideally actively receiving)

This week, beyond consciously choosing to learn something, I also invite you to pay special attention to what your life and the Universe is trying to teach you…

And then I want to hear from you in the comments below!

Have a FAB week!

Is it your time… for Mobile Heaven?

My Week in Pics: From tapas to paella… and maximising the moments without a mobile phone.

Is it your time… for Mobile Heaven?

Happy Friday!

It’s funny. I’m old enough to know what life was like before cell phones existed. And somehow the world survived just fine!

And now, if anything happens to our phones, it’s like our world comes crashing down. And I’ll admit it, I’m no exception.

It’s been tough not having a properly working phone this past week. However as much as I value technology, the internet, and social media for all it can offer in terms of connection and relationship-building, I also think there may be a downside, too.

Watch this week’s video to hear about my latest mobile phone woes, and the challenge I’ve created as a result!

When you are experiencing something, checking something off of your bucket list (and trust me, I’m the Queen of Bucket List!), or engaging in your daily activities, are you actually experiencing? And what if you couldn’t post to social media, could you survive?

I invite you to take on this disconnection challenge… and find the joy in the action of DOING.

DO IT… and then share your experiences in the comments below. I dare you!

Have a FAB week!

Leave Your Phone at Home! Lessons learned from El Camino de Santiago to La Tomatina Festival

My Week in Pics: Going ‘off the grid’ and enjoying the beauty, splendour, and serenity walking six days of the Coastal Route of El Camino de Santiago… and then the very next day experiencing the craziness that is La Tomatina Festival!

Leave Your Phone at Home! Lessons learned from El Camino de Santiago to La Tomatina Festival

For the first time all year, I completely unplugged. For five whole days. I mean no laptop, no facebook, no wifi. And it was glorious.

It may not sound like a whole lotta time, and yet those days while walking El Camino de Santiago I was able to be fully present… to smell the flowers, to feel the wind, and to experience heart-full, soulful connections with other individuals.

I wanted to stay longer. I wanted to complete it. And one day, I will.

BUT, I had things to do, people to see, and La Tomatina Festival to attend!

Well, after what transpired, perhaps I should have stayed on El Camino after all…

Watch this week’s video to hear the story and find out what it really means to disconnect.

So, what would be left if you were stripped away of all your ‘stuff?

And what would it look like to ‘DO less’ and ‘BE more’ ?

I want to hear from you! Leave your comments and thoughts below, or over on YouTube

Why I Decided to Detach, Disconnect, and Detox… and why you should, too

My week in pics: Saying goodbye to new friends on board Sail Croatia’s Magellan, arriving in beautiful (& bucket list destination!) San Sebastián, Spain, and making the decision to embark on El Camino de Santiago…

Why I Decided to Detach, Disconnect, and Detox…
and why you should, too.

Happy Friday!

San Sebastián, Spain has been on my bucket list for over ten years. And so you can only imagine how excited I was to arrive there on Monday (especially as I was reconnecting with a special friend from back home!)

However, my time there ended up looking a little bit different than I expected.

Instead of hitting up the waves and going out on the town feasting on tapas and wine (it’s actually known as both a surfer’s and foodie’s paradise!) I found myself spending most of my time staying in my cozy little room in old town, with a small balcony looking out onto the action-packed cobblestone street below.

Why?

My luggage was lost (I know, right?!?) and I ended up watching an episode of Super Soul Sunday with Shauna Niequist, NY Times best-selling author Present Over Perfect: Leaving Behind Frantic for a Simpler, More Soulful Way of Living.

Watch this week’s video to find out what happened next, where I am at the time I shot the video, and why I felt the need to detach, disconnect, and detox.

WATCH IT NOW!

So, although a bit more of a personal reveal instead of a lesson to teach, I’d love to challenge you to look for how life may be speaking to you. Is it time for YOU to detach, disconnect, and detox from the outside, and perhaps re-connect with you on the inside?

I want to hear from you in the comments below!

Have a FAB week!

5 Strategies to Stay Up When Life Kicks You Down

My week in pics: Exploring all of the beauty and splendor that is Croatia, while on board Sail Croatia’s lovely Magellan, and making a whole lot of special new friends for life… I think this country may have stolen my heart!

It’s Always Sunny in Croatia!
5 Strategies to Stay Up When Life Kicks You Down

Happy Friday!

And greetings from beautiful Hvar, Croatia. A country I honestly didn’t previously know a whole lot about, and have since fallen in love with.

Honestly. And if the pictures do it even a little bit of justice, no doubt you can understand why!

It’s true I am extremely fortunate to be travelling the world right now. That being said, travelling is not always sunshine and rainbows.

Sometimes travelling can be tough. And sometimes bad things can happen.

Last week, I had my backpack taken while on the the train from Budapest, Hungary to Split, Croatia. In the moment I went from complete panic to denial, anger, frustration, guilt… and I’ve played the ‘what if’ game way too many times. However I’m now in a very different place ~ dare I say I am actually at peace with it all. (But really, did you have to take my journal?!?)

In this week’s video, I share the story of having my backpack taken, as well as the 5 strategies I’ve used to be able to come to a place of peace.

WATCH IT NOW!

Again, here are the 5 strategies:

  1. Shift Your Mindset
  2. Seek Comfort in Community
  3. Take Action
  4. Look For The Lessons
  5. Find Gratitude

Next time something not so great happen in your life, which of these five strategies are going to implement? Or do you have other ideas? I want to hear from you!

Have a FAB week!
