Happy Friday! (and happy LAST Friday of 2019 to boot!)
I’m sitting here still in my new Christmas pyjamas (yes, if you read my email yesterday the matching ones with all 8 of our family members from baby Harris to Grandaddy… it was pretty hilarious and pretty special!) sitting next to my niece and nephew, and feeling no shame whatsoever!
The Christmas music is still playing.
The last morsels of turkey are getting sliced to make another delicious cold turkey lunch.
And the cookies and chocolates and treats sitting in the pantry continue to call my name… even though I’ve indulged in more than my fair share!
All evidence points to a lovely holiday enjoyed by all.
And it was.
And it’s still going!
However now we’re getting ready to focus our attention to the new year, and a new decade to boot!
I do love the idea of a fresh start.
A clean slate.
A new chapter with a blank page in front of us.
But before jumping ahead to that exciting ball drop moment, I always take a quiet moment at this time of year to pause and reflect back on my past 365-day journey around the sun.
And I invite you to do the same.
Yes, it’s exciting to dream and scheme up all of the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead, and yet it’s also important to look back on how far we’ve come, all we have to be grateful for, all we’ve learned, and all that deserves celebrating.
Now you may very well already have your end-of-year rituals, journaling prompts, or special reflection exercises you regularly partake in… so if that’s the case, please do your thing!
And, if you’re curious, here is the list of questions I use as part of my reflection process, which continues to serve me well.
It’s not too overwhelming, and they get me to think.
I hope they’re do the same for you.
End of Year Reflection Questions:
What’s something amazing you discovered about yourself?
What are you most grateful for?
Who are you most grateful for (and which cheerleaders do you want to thank?)
What accomplishment or experience are you the most proud of?
What are you celebrating? (at least 3!)
What is the most important lesson(s) you learned this year?
What are you ready to let go of?
What are you ready to commit to taking on?
How will you push yourself out of your comfort zone in order to be braver this year?
What one word would you like to use to describe what 2020 is going to be for you?
Now the last thing I want you to do is add more to your to-do list when this time of year is for relaxing, good times, and winding down. And no need to answer them all or in any special way… there is no right or wrong here!
At the same time, it can be a powerful exercise to do with a nice cup of hot cocoa or almond eggnog to reflect on this past year… all that it was, and all that it wasn’t. All you experienced, all you learned, all you have to celebrate, and who you became in the process.
And I guarantee you, you’ll feel more ready, and more excited to ring in and bring on 2020 🙌 !
And also feel free to also share your end-of-year rituals in the comments below. Sharing is caring, after all!
(And if want to do this LIVE with me, check out my email from yesterday where I share a special invitation with you!)
May it be your biggest and bravest year yet!
🎉 🙌 🌟HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🌟 🙌 🎉
P.S. THANK YOU 🙏 for being an important part of my year… inviting me into your inbox each week is an honour I do not take lightly. And you reading, sharing your thoughtful comments, and continuing to show your support means more than you know.
Cheers to all we have created in 2019, and cheers to all that lies ahead on our journey into 2020!
