My week in pics: Having an incredible experience traveling 7 hours from San Jose, Costa Rica to the remote community of Sabaló, volunteering with UGO Travel For Change, Secret Costa Rica, and the Asamoas Association for women… (and really getting a glimpse into the life of this welcoming community!) 

Greetings from the lovely little remote town of Sabalo, Costa Rica (kinda in the middle of nowhere!) surrounded by nothing but forest and green and so much beauty.

I’m honoured to be a part of a service trip with UGO Travel For Change, where a powerful group of women are working hard building a shed for the Asamoas – an association of women to empower one another and this community at large – another very powerful group of women.

Thwarted Expectations… 3 Ways To Kick Them to the Curb!

My week in pics: Attending my first Spanish wedding (beautiful!), meeting more of my man’s other side of the family for his Grandmother’s 100th birthday (I know… CRAZY!), and enjoying a few days of disconnection exploring the coast and the mountains a little south of Barcelona.

And happy final Friday where I’ll be coming to you from Spain! Crazy, but true.

My time here has come to an end, my Remote Year experience will officially be over, and soon I will be back on home turf in Canada (although first a retreat with UGO Tavel For Change to Costa Rica next week – so can’t really complain!)

Because it was my last week here in Spain, and someone’s birthday, we decided to get away for a few days.

It was a surprise, and I did my best to research, read reviews, and ensure it would be lovely.
Alas, it didn’t quite meet my expectations!

Are you overdosing on objectives?

Meeting new friends and having fun eating Mexican (in Spain!), exploring the city and taking in moments in nature…

Happy Friday!

I don’t know about you, but I like setting goals. I like having objectives. And I like feeling as though I am working towards something… checking items off the list and getting closer to completion.

However, I’ve noticed recently it’s not only in my professional life that I like to be working towards goals… it’s leaked into my personal life, too.

While on a trail run this past weekend, I had a bit of an epiphany.

Watch this week’s video to find out how I got called out – and my ensuing aha moment – and answer 3 important questions to see whether you’re on your way to a goal-setting overdose!

Again, ask yourself these 3 questions:

  1. Where in your life do you set goals, have objectives on, or are you measuring?
  2. When was the last time you did something just because, or
  3. How would it feel to eliminate any objective or measurement-driven activity just for one day?

 

It may be time for a goal-setting, objective hunting, to-do list checking detox!

And greetings from Plaza de la Virgen, an old little square in the heart of old town, Valencia, that dates back to the Roman Times. With the Cathedral of Santa Maria behind me, the fountain of Neptune (surrounded by eight naked women – fun fact!) to my right, it’s a great spot for eating, drinking, and people watching.

Now I love people watching, but yesterday I found myself people watching in a whole new way. And while the experience normally leaves me feeling inspired, this one left me feeling icky.

In a nutshell, I got triggered.

Not everyone is going to like you…

Happy Friday!

Today I’m coming to you from my balcony… giving you a glimpse into where I’ve been living now we’re no longer in the hustle and bustle of the city centre (I kinda miss the buzz, to be honest!)

But I do like being able to see the mountains. And I like still being close to the beach. I like a lot of things!

And, I’ll admit it, I also like to be liked. 

And I know I’m not alone. 

Although it comes from a good place ~ it’s nice to be nice to others, to belong, and to genuinely want to be helpful, thoughtful, and caring ~ there is also such thing as caring too much. 

Being in a new relationship, I’m conscious of wanting to fit in with the family, wanting to be accepted, and wanting to be liked. 

However, if you are a good person, a genuine person, and your motivations are pure, it shouldn’t matter what others think. Sometimes easier said than done, no?!?

Watch this week’s video to learn 3 harsh truths about caring a lot (dare I say too much) about what others’ think, that will save you a lot of precious time and energy. 

Again, here are the three (somehow harsh!) truths:

  1. Not everyone is going to like you. 
  1. No matter how hard you try, you cannot control others’ feelings or reactions towards you.  
  1. People care so much less than you think they do!

And remember, as Don Miguel Ruiz shares in his book The Four Agreements, what others think of you is none of your business!
