Time to Take Back Control of Your Thoughts! Here’s How.

Confession Time: I used to be quite the disaster in the kitchen – think burnt oatmeal and veggies turned to charcoal. It’s funny, but this culinary chaos was one of a few areas in my life that changed dramatically after I began to understand the power of my thoughts, and more specifically, began to unpack ‘The Thoughts Cycle.’

This cycle is not just about cooking, or any other personal matters – it’s at the heart of how we show up and lead in our work. Our thoughts kickstart a sequence: they shape our feelings, drive our actions, and ultimately, determine our results. Start with a thought like ‘I’m never going to get the hang of this cooking—or leading,’ and you’re in for a self-fulfilling prophecy of flops.

But here’s the cool part: once you begin to understand this cycle, you can step in and stop it in its tracks. It’s kinda like swapping out a recipe ingredient for a better one!

Watch this video I made belowwhich explains what I’m talking about!👇

Lao Tzu, the ancient Chinese philosopher, said it this way:

“Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”

But it’s not just about understanding this cycle; it’s about actively engaging with it.

This week, I challenge you to play detective with the thoughts you entertain on a daily basis. Are they limiting beliefs or empowering affirmations? Do they lead you to words of encouragement and actions of progress, or do they trap you in a negative cycle of doubt and procrastination?

The beauty of this cycle is that it’s never too late to change its course. Find a thought that’s really not serving you, and then choose to reframe it into a more positive and empowering one. It’s fascinating to see how this small change has the power to impact all areas of your life!

Here’s to mixing, flipping, and seasoning our way to being an even braver version of yourself. 👊
